Uzbekistan, a central Asian republic, is the 2nd largest exporter of cotton in the world.

cotton irrigation and pesticide use have caused environmental catastrophe
teachers take their children to work in the fields as ordered by the state
adult and child workers drink out of the tainted irrigation canals
they are forced to sell the cotton for a fraction of the market price
protesters are killed by the government; men, children, women and their babies
