Congratulations to David Basson, president of Greensource! This is seriously fantastic news!
SEATTLE – [17.02.09] Greensource, one of the largest suppliers of branded and private label organic cotton clothing, which counts Wal-Mart and Kmart among its customers, is launching three new lines of affordable organic cotton jeans.
The WA-based company says its new line of GOTS certified men’s, women’s, and children’s jeans enable consumers to buy products with a similar look to premium jeans, but with less impact both on the environment and consumer’s bank balance.
Test quantities of the jeans have already sold well in the 4th quarter of 2008 at Macy’s (‘Greensource’), Kohl’s (‘ReGen’), Wal-Mart (‘Faded Glory’) and Kmart (‘Route 66’). Based on the success of those sales, Greensource says it is now launching major quantities at the volume retailers. “It was exciting to make jeans that are not only more environmentally friendly, but also fashion-forward and affordable,” said David Basson, president of Greensource.
Basson is currently showing the new line at the MAGIC apparel show in Las Vegas which ends this week. He notes that all five of Greensource’s manufacturing facilities were certified to the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) by Control Union between 2007 and 2008, making them some of the first mills worldwide to gain certification.
